What is Vipassana?

Vipassana image

Vipassana is a simple, practical method to achieve true peace of mind and a happy, meaningful life. Meaning "to see things as they really are," it involves mental purification through self-observation.

We all experience agitation and frustration, spreading our misery to others. To live peacefully and harmoniously, Vipassana helps us purify our minds, freeing us from suffering and its deep causes. This practice leads us to the ultimate goal of complete mental liberation.

Namaste,
About 2600 years back Gautam Buddha, founded a universal way out of all suffering and thus became enlightened.Vipassana Meditation is the quintessence of his teaching. The technique of Vipassana is a simple, practical way to achieve real peace of mind and to lead a happy, useful life. Vipassana means "to see things as they really are"; it is a logical process of mental purification through self-observation.

Vipassana enables us to experience peace and harmony: it purifies the mind, freeing it from suffering and the deep-seated causes of suffering. The practice leads step-by-step to the highest spiritual goal of full liberation from all mental defilements. After benefiting millions throughout the country for centuries it was however lost in India.

A few decades ago Shri S N Goenkaji brought back the jewel of Vipassana from Myanmar. The Ganges of Dhamma started flowing again in the country of its origin after centuries of darkness. Over the years the Dhamma has spread widely with a center on every continent in the world.

Vipassana Nashik (Dhamma Nasika)

  • Now yet another Dhamma center- the Vipassana Meditation Center in Nashik city- has started taking shape in eleven acres of land at Pimpalgaon Bahula Shivar.
  • Goenkaji has named the center Dhamma Nāsikā, meaning 'Nose of Dhamma,’
  • Located in Nashik, Maharashtra, this center is dedicated to Vipassana Meditation in the tradition of Sayaji U Ba Khin as taught by Mr. S. N. Goenka.
  • In March 2005, Goenkaji and Mataji visited Dhamma Nasika to lay the foundation for the future pagoda and mediate with the local Dhamma workers and other meditators.
  • Dhamma Nāsikā, meaning 'Nose of Dhamma,' is situated on a secluded plot of land given by the Municipal Corporation of Nashik.
  • The 17-acre triangular plot, about an hour's drive from Dhamma Giri, is on a high piece of land and protected on all sides. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Dhamma Nāsikā is yet within a convenient distance of Nashik city. On all sides, one can see the mountains of Sahyadri. The center overlooks Nashik city, and Gangapur Dam is about three kilometers away.

Vision & Purpose of the Project

Our Vision, Purpose and Goals

Purpose of Dhamma Nasika is to help at least a MILLION PEOPLE get liberated from their miseries and addictions that have been stopping them from attaining peace in their life.

Importance of Expanding Facilities

Donating to Vipassana supports the permanent transformation of individuals who come to the Vipassana Center to learn the technique. Once individuals get on the path of Vipassana & continue to follow the practice, they embark on the path of liberation.

Importance of Expanding Facilities

Demand for the course at the Nashik location is extremely high. However, due to limited residential quarters, a small Dhamma Hall accommodating only 50 students, and few meditation cells, we can only accommodate 50 out of over 300 applications per batch.
